Introduction

As a part of The Art Institute of Atlanta's Interactive Media 440 Advanced Interface Design group project*, we conducted an Online Survey to study which design interface elements users preferred.

  • Test the design assumptions we make everyday as website designers
  • 10 question survey
  • Created a Flash based survey application
  • Simple testing method
  • Immediate results given
  • Also, developed various alternate application methods

* Note: Group Project Members:

Limitations

Due to the scope of the project, there were a number of limitations that existed:

  • Users only had two options, thus we only tested certain aspects of each interface element
  • The results are only an indication as to what users prefer, given more options, we realize that different outcomes may have occurred
  • Used partial web pages to draw focus to what was being tested, thus limiting the contextual references that users often rely on
  • An abundance of tech savvy users participated in the survey

Process

  • As a group we decided upon which elements to test (with input from the instructor as well as the class as a whole
  • Went through several iterations of representative images
  • Tested the questions and the test method
  • Implemented the survey as well as analyzed the results
